Ebola Reaches the U.S.
It appears Ebola has reared its ugly head on this side of the Atlantic. With the burgeoning number of infections overseas, it was only a matter of time.
A Liberian citizen infected with the virus by the name of Thomas Eric Duncan boarded a flight bound out of Liberia's capital and, by a circuitous route through several countries, ended up in Texas.
As many as 100 Americans are suspected of possible exposure and are being watched. His family here in the States is under quarantine and observation.
His home country is considering charging him with a crime for doing this, but considering the deadly nature of the disease and the severe strain on a Liberian health care system that is turning sick people away from hospitals because it can't handle any more cases, his decision could be considered rational, if saving his your own life is the ultimate consideration. In a U.S. hospital, with the best supporting care and possible access to an experimental drug, Duncan at least has a fighting chance to live.
