Dear Rundown Reader,
Your views on how much taxes influence the decision to move:
“We moved from Canada to Ecuador and the number one reason was property taxes. We were paying $520 per month in Calgary and now we only pay $380 per year to live on the beach.”
And this from a reader who stayed in the States:
“I moved from SoCal to Cheyenne, WY a little over a year ago.
“One of the considerations was that WY has no state income tax and the property taxes were well below the Golden State. (I think that is why it is called the Golden State.)
“Best move I ever made.”
Finally, from a reader who plans a move to the Sunshine State:
“Illinois resident; absolutely looking to get out from under my high property taxes not to mention the cold winters. Florida or bust in about 2 years.”
For the record, we didn’t get any feedback indicating taxes didn’t play a role in the decision to move.
Your Rundown for Wednesday, September 19, 2018…
There’s a Marijuana App for That…
Canada-based Tilray Inc (TLRY) got approval from the Drug Enforcement Agency to import cannabinoid capsules to study the effects on a neurological disorder called essential tremor.
The study is the first in the U.S. for marijuana producer Tilray; on the announcement yesterday, Tilray’s shares jumped over 10% and continue to climb.
Another medical marijuana study at the University of New Mexico might not have gotten as much press but it’s important nonetheless.
Researchers asked 2,800 people to track their use of cannabis and its effects using the free mobile Releaf App.
First, patients categorized by 27 different conditions were asked their levels of discomfort on a scale of 0 to 10 before using cannabis.
After using cannabis, patients were asked to track their symptom relief using the Releaf App.
The findings: Over 94% of users recorded symptom relief and the average symptom reduction was almost 4 points across the 27 different categories.
UNM researcher Dr. Jacob Vigil says, “By collecting massive amounts of patient-entered information on actual cannabis used under real-life circumstances we are able to measure…the immediate and longer-term effects of such use.”
The Releaf App is a novel approach; it was able to capture 13,638 data points from patients using cannabis under natural conditions.
