This Is U.S.
We’re focusing on a single contributor here because he took the time to answer all the questions we posited yesterday:
“I believe the stock market is headed for a BOOOOOOOM! We are already seeing it taking off this week. Get ready; it will happen. But with every BOOM there also comes a correction at some point. Look for that to happen sometime in 2020.
“I do believe China will come to terms and the winner will be the USA and Trump. He has the b***s to stand up to countries that have taken advantage of us in trade deals in the past. It’s time for a TRUE fair trade deal and China will be just one of many countries that will learn that it has to have a level playing field if they want to play!
“Impeachment? Well, since so many people just can’t believe their choice for president did not win and refuse to give up the battle to get their party in as President, they will never give up on impeachment until Trump is out of office.
“What happened to us? When we used to vote, when [our candidate] didn’t win, we all joined together to make our country better. Now days, when we lose, we fight to destroy the one who won….even if it starts destroying our country.
“My last comment: our country is moving further…from the principles this country was founded on. The next thing I expect to see happen is Congress will move to rewrite the Constitution, changing everything we have known.”

Your Rundown for Thursday, January 10, 2018:
Peaceful Transition of Power
Another reader wrote in yesterday: “I want to know what you think.”
While The Rundown appreciates the reader’s sentiment, we generally like to preserve the space — especially “above the fold” — as a forum for your opinions.
Occasionally I digress. Today’s one such occasion.
I bolded the reader’s paragraph above because I think it’s an important idea.
I recall one election cycle when I was less than enthusiastic about the Presidential candidates. I still voted (write-in) because I believe it’s important to exercise my right. Others choose not to exercise the right to vote. That’s their right, too.
When it came time for the broadcast of the inauguration, I didn’t want to watch but flipped the TV on anyway. By the end of the ceremony, I admit, I was misty-eyed.
Still didn’t like the new President…but that was beside the point. I’d just witnessed the peaceful transition of power, something countries around the world only dream of.
And something that made our early American forebears hold their collective breath when it came time to transition from George Washington to John Adams.
So if the last election didn’t go your way — or the next time it doesn’t — instead of taking your ball and going home, try doing what the reader above suggests: join together as Americans to make the country better.
Sorry if that sounds pollyannaish; it’s not just an antiquated idea. It might be one of the most progressive ideas in history.
