Willful Ignorance

Continuing the discussion about the MEK, a reader cites something we said Tuesday:

“To give you an idea what the group’s been up to: In the 1980s, the MEK fought alongside Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq War. Their aim then and now? To overthrow the Ayatollah Khomeini and his government.”

In response, our reader says: “For those that think this is a knock against the MEK, replace MEK with U.S.A. and the statement is still true.

“I was in the Persian Gulf in 1989, escorting tankers when Hussein was our ally against Iran.”

The U.S. has had strange bedfellows.

On regime change, a contributor says…

“The most powerful countries have always been involved in regime change, at least since the Roman Empire.

“The surprise portrayed in the U.S. media, and from some politicians, over Russian meddling in the U.S. election was and is proof of their ignorance.”

Conveniently, willful ignorance?

Your Rundown for Thursday Jan. 9, 2020

Semi Meltup

New year, new outlook for semiconductor stocks.

To give you an idea, semiconductors are used in the manufacture of chips for advanced electronic devices — including computers, smartphones, GPS and much more.

Remember Samsung’s bot Ballie? Semiconductors.

Pulling no punches here, semi stocks have experienced tremendous volatility over the past two years. The unremitting trade war’s seen to that.

With the anticipated signing of the U.S.-China trade agreement next week, the tides are turning for the semiconductor/chipmaker sector.

And it’s already happening…

The iShares PHLX Semiconductor ETF (NYSE: SOXX) is an effortless way to get exposure to a basket of solid-performing semi stocks. Check out a breakdown of SOXX holdings here.

One thing we failed to mention, with the 5G revolution at hand, there’s tons of potential for semi stocks in 2020.
